Dans cette conférence nous verrons comment recevoir un appel téléphonique et comment passer un appel téléphonique en anglais.

 

Receiving a phone call – examples with Ben:

Example 1 :

– Hi Nelly, it’s Ben, is your brother there?

Example 2 :

– Good morning, this is John Michaels I’d like to speak to Mr White, please, it’s about our last meeting.

 

Text 1 :

  • Can I have your name please?
  • How can I help you?
  • Just a moment please.
  • Of course, please hold a minute while I check that.
  • Could you please hold on a minute?
  • Can I put you on hold for a minute?
  • Is there anything else I can help you with?

Text 2 :

Lorsqu’il faut donner une réponse négative…

  • Oh, I’m sorry, he’s not there yet.
  • I’m afraid Mr white isn’t in the office at the moment.
  • Can I take a message? / Would you be able to call back later?

Text 3 :

  • Hello it’s Ben.
  • I’d like to speak to Mr. Manning please.
  • I’m calling on behalf of Apple Computers.

Text 4 :

  • I’d like to know if you have any vacancies for the 24th of May.
  • I’m calling about the last draft you sent me.
  • It’s with regards to our next meeting.
  • I’m calling/phoning to change our reservation if possible.

Text 5 :

  • Thank you for calling.
  • Is there anything else I can help you with?
  • Bye bye!
  • Bye for now!

 

Example 3 :

Conversation avec Alban et Ben…

Ben : Hello, Ben speaking.

Alban : Hi Ben, it’s Alban, how is it going?

Ben : Not bad at all Alban, what’s going on?

Alban : Well, I’m calling to know if you’re available next week for a little snowboarding session. The weather forecasts announce a lot of snow and a sunny day. How does that sound?

Ben : I’d love to go! But I’m afraid I’m not available this Monday. How about Tuesday? 

Alban : Tuesday is good for me too.

Ben : Great, let’s meet at my place at 9am.

Alban : Perfect, see you then.

Ben : Bye!
