    Hello Robert. The verb “TO CATCH UP” is a phrasal verb (verbe à particule). You can find it in the dictionary under the verb TO CATCH.

    TO CATCH = Attraper
    TO CATCH UP = Rattraper / Se retrouver

    Here are some examples with the phrasal verb TO CATCH UP.

    – He is so far behind in the race that he needs to catch up if he is going to win. = Il est tellement loin derrière dans la course qu’il doit rattraper son retard s’il veut gagner.
    – We haven’t seen each other for so long. It will be great to catch up. = Nous ne nous sommes pas vus depuis si longtemps. Ce sera génial de se retrouver.

    CATCHING UP with the ending -ING is a gerund (gérondif). A gerund can be both a noun and a verb. In the title of this video CATCHING UP means LE RETROUVAILLE.

    Hello, I listened this first lesson two times with a break in between ?
    My main difficulties is to understand when English people are talking? So, I was happy with the quiz result. May be one time, I would be able to understand better.

    Thanks for your comment Annie. It’s true that both Tessa and I speak a little slower and more clearly than normal, but that is required for the level. It’s good that you’ve come back from Level 3 to watch these videos. Even though you find them quite easy it’s always good to do a little revision.

    At the moment, I’m at the third level and still mindful to understand natives speaking together. This is why I’m so interested by the QUIZZ central videos.
    This video with Tessa and Ben has been easy for me to understand for they are really careful to their pronunciation.

    It is a good idea to complete the level 1. And it is very interesting to hear both accents : British and American . But it is true, it is not really easy to understand Tessa especially as she is on the side and we can’t lip-read. (?)

    Oui Alban, j’ai regardé l’ensemble des notions. Toutefois, je n’ai pas cliqué sur “terminé” car je souhaite y revenir plus profondément en prenant des notes. Toutefois, je peux déjà dire qu’au vu de la structure et des explications apportées par chacun des animateurs, j’ai grand espoir de faire de grands progrès de compréhension dans les prochains mois. La balle est maintenant dans mon camp pour être aussi assidue que je l’étais pour le niveau débutant.
    Encore bravo pour ce travail de formateurs.

    Bonjour,
    C’est très intéressant !…. cela me permet de confirmer que ma grande lacune est la compréhension. Autant, je n’avais vraiment pas compris grand chose en les écoutant, à part, qu’ils semblaient déjà se connaître auparavant et qu’ils souhaitaient aller manger ensemble un de ces jours.
    Joe a alors demandé les coordonnées de Rebecca (prénom – nom et téléphone).
    En revanche, au niveau de la compréhension pour la lecture, cela m’était plus facile car il m’a suffit de ne lire qu’une seule fois le texte, pour être capable de répondre correctement aux 9 questions sur 10. (J’ai lu trop vite car j’ai juste confondu entre la durée de 3 heures qu’ils skiaient ensemble avec le nombre d’années depuis qu’ils s’étaient rencontrés).
    Espérons, que dans les mois à venir, j’aurai réussi à surmonter cette grande lacune de compréhension.
    A noter aussi, qu’il semblerait que je comprenne davantage l’accent de Ben.
    Bravo ! pour cette initiative de niveau intermédiaire !…
